THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR RADIO, TELECOMUNICATIONS AND ELECTROMAGNETICS (iNARTE)
Overview
iNARTE is part of Exemplar Global, a not-for-profit organization that services and supports the conformity assessment industry (auditors, trainers and certification bodies). However, there was a large difference in the designs of both websites that made them less connected.
Therefore, iNARTE was seeking our help on how to integrate the contents of their website into the Exemplar Global website in order to make their connection more clear.
At the same time, they also want to keep their identity on the integrated website.
The problem
The iNARTE and Exemplar Global websites were separated, and there was a large difference in the designs of both websites that made them appear less connected.
Our solution
Suggested these 3 ways to integrate both of the websites :
-
Combine the iNARTE and Exemplar Global websites into a
single site -
Include iNARTE website contents on Exemplar Global
website’s navigation -
Redesign the homepage contents to promote the connection of both brands and maintain the iNARTE’s identity

WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN iNARTE AND EXEMPLAR GLOBAL, AND WHAT DO THEIR USERS NEED?
We started our move by analyzing the iNARTE and Exemplar Global websites to understand their services and find out any contents that were connected. We also conducted an interview with an iNARTE customer and analyzed the website data analytics and customer reviews to understand their users' needs.

THERE ARE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THESE TWO BRANDS
From the synthesized data, we got these 3 useful insights that could help us to come up with the best solutions :

-
There are iNARTE website contents that are similar to Exemplar Global, though their target audience is different.
-
Clear navigation and information are essential for the business side and also the users
-
The user is mainly focused on getting information about certifications and exams easily when using the website
Similarities and differences between iNARTE and Exemplar Global website contents
THERE IS A WAY TO SHOW BOTH OF THEIR CONNECTIONS AND MAINTAIN
THEIR IDENTITIES
Based on the insights, we tried to come up with some concepts and did a comparative analysis to find out some simple ways to integrate both brands into one website.
Inspirations from other websites
We came up with two main concepts and presented them to the client. From their feedback, we had a discussion again and found out that combining the two concepts could solve all the problems. We then started to design our first prototype based on the feedback and the new findings.
Concept 1
CONCEPT
include iNARTE contents in Exemplar Global navigation bar
Concept 2
include iNARTE logo and a link to their own website
CLIENT FEEDBACK
"iNARTE identity is unclear and might be confusing for the iNARTE’s customers"
"It would be better if we can just have one website instead of two"
TAKEAWAY
Include the iNARTE logo or images on the integrated homepage website
Include the iNARTE website's content into the EG website
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE INTEGRATED WEBSITE?
Once we completed the prototype and wireframes, we ran usability tests with 2 iNARTE customers and 2 beginner users. We assigned some tasks for the users to accomplish, including one to apply for an iNARTE certification.

During the session, we observed how they interacted with the prototype and apply for the certification. Even though there were some struggles, the users were able to finish the certificate application task.

We took note of the user’s feedback and did some iterations on the prototype. We also shared the information with the client.

WHAT'S NEXT?
We advised the client to conduct more usability tests among iNARTE customers to get additional feedback in order to improve the website. We also advised them to inform the developer team about the new content and features we proposed for the website so that they could check if the changes were possible or not.

Here are some features that we suggested to the client that should and could be included in the next phase for future their reference :
Should have features
-
Locate the important information (e.g., certification requirements, apply on Exemplar Link) at the top and in the middle of the page in order to make it more visible.
-
The "Getting Certified" page should include links about the types of certifications to make it easier for users to find the certifications that they want to pursue.

Could have features
-
Bold some keywords in the certification overview
-
Make the apply button for certifications and exams stand out more
REFLECTIONS
Understand what the client’s need before starting the design
At first, we got a brief meeting with the primary client about what their problems and what they want. From the brief meeting, we understood that we need to redesign iNARTE website to make it look updated and similar with Exemplar Global website. However, when we did a meeting with the iNARTE team members, what they actually want is to combine iNARTE and Exemplar Global website.
From this experience, I learned that it is important to get clarification with the client about their problem and needs before dive deeper into the project.
Include the clients in the design journey
During the project, we set at least one meeting per week with the primary client to update about our progress. We also set a meeting with iNARTE team members and the CEO of Exemplar Global to explain about our solution. We keep on iterate our design based on their feedback and make sure that we solved the right problem.
Because of the occasional updates with the client, we were able to came up with the right solution for their problem. The client were happy with our design and would like to apply it for their next step.
